You asking? We’re dancing!

With the year’s early appearances at Forty Hall Farm and for St George’s Day behind us it’s now the 1st of May, the traditional start of the Morris dancing out season. Looking at our social media feeds today, this morning Morris dancing sides around the country were up and about dancing up the dawn and generally making merry, with optimism about the coming dancing season (if nothing else). Well done to them for keeping that tradition going.

Our 2019 Programme

The arrival of May Day means it’s now time to put all our practice over the last six or seven months to the test as we head out on our summer dancing season. This season will see at least one new dance to be premiered somewhere and the return of some we’ve not done in public recently.

So, we are looking forward to the season – which will see us dancing around the Enfield area, celebrating local events and successes, enjoying a beer or two, and representing our home town up in the Yorkshire Dales as part of the Leeds Morris Men’s Annual Dales Tour. If you’re one of the people who has asked and isn’t yet lucky enough to have got your hands on our 2019 Programme of Dance yet, or if you’re just curious, check out where to find us over on our Diary page. We hope to see you at one or more of the spots we dance at over summer 2019!

Wrapping up 2018

Etcetera Morris Men rounded off 2018 with their now traditional Christmas-Dinner-themed AGM. The usual reports were given by the officers, votes of thanks and words of encouragement offered, and toasts to those who are no longer with us. Two Etcetera men have danced or played their last this year and we remember their contributions fondly as we look forward to another year of dancing in 2019 – starting on New Year’s Day.

Dancing Season 2018

Etcetera Morris Men’s 2018 dancing season is well underway as we head into the second week of June. As the Diary attests, we’ve had a busy string of weekend events in April and May has taken us from Brookmans Park to Walthamstow, and Southgate to Cheshunt. We’ve survived a flurry of GDPR emails (please reply to the Bagman’s message on this subject if you want us to keep in touch by email – or contact us/email if you want us to start being in touch!).

We’ve danced for St. George’s Day both for the Mayor of Broxbourne and in Enfield, and May Day on Southgate Green and near Epping. We’ve celebrated success at the Little Green Dragon micro-pub, marked the late Spring Bank Holiday, and joined in the events at Enfield Market for their 400th Anniversary Charter Fair.

There is still more to come through June and July up to our Day of Dance in Enfield in September. We’ve already had a good day out in West Essex with Thaxted Morris Men and there are two dancing nights this week! Check out the Diary page for more details of what is still to come.

Happy New Year 2018!

A very Happy New Year to all our website visitors! Hope 2018 is a healthy, happy and successful year for you all.

To kick things off in our usual style we will be dancing today at 12.30pm at The Wonder, Batley Road, Enfield EN2 0JG. We hope to see a good crowd.  Why not start 2018 with an English tradition and the chance to join in a dance and a song? Details here: New Year’s Day Spectacular 2018. See you there!

Festive cheer

Time flies at this point in the year and before you know it it’ll be 2018. With just three weeks now to Christmas Day, Etcetera Morris Men are looking forward to a few festive traditions running up to our New Year’s Day Spectacular in just four weeks’ time.

Tonight – Monday 04 December – is the final Etcetera Folk English Country Dance session of 2017, followed by a festive drink down at the Moon Under Water on Chase Side. Continue reading

Day of Dance 2017

Dancing in Enfield – 23 September 2017

Etcetera Morris Men in Enfield Town Park

Last weekend saw Etcetera Morris Men return to their home town for their Day of Dance.  After a great summer season of dancing at week-night pub visits and many events in and around the area, and further afield, we took to Enfield Town to dance throughout the day on Saturday 23 September, to display traditional English Cotswold Morris Dancing.

Diary update

© Steve Archer 2013

It’s been a busy couple of months at practice since our New Year’s Day Spectacular at The Wonder, Enfield.  The Squire and Foreman have been putting us through our paces (and 1-2-3-hops) and picking up on those fine details to ensure we’re in tip top condition for the 2017 season.

The focus remains on dances from the villages of Fieldtown, Bampton and Adderbury, though there are a few other old favourites and well known dances in the mix. We even spent some time on jigs (solo dances – occasionally duets though, or even four-handed) this week.

Sticking at Forty Hall

With that, the Diary page has now been updated with all our practice season dates. Keep checking back in the next few weeks as we’re putting the finishing touches to our spring and summer dancing out programme.  You can also connect with us on Twitter and Facebook. Looking forward to a busy season of dancing!

Wassail for now!
