FAQs
What is Morris Dancing?
A colourful, exuberant, energetic English folk dance. Dancers clash sticks and wave hankies while dancing in formation and capering in the air. Usually a team of 4 or 6 dance in formation to live traditional music on the squeezebox or fiddle. It is danced to celebrate special occasions, or else just for fun. Morris dancing in England dates back over 500 years, but it is still a living tradition today.
Who can take part?
Anyone who would like to have fun and celebrate tradition. This is an adult session – anyone from 16+ to 60+ is welcome. And remember – English traditions are there for everyone who lives in England to enjoy. Historically, Morris was mostly a man’s dance but today the Morris community includes women’s sides, men’s sides and mixed sides. We dance out together, socialize together and support each other.
How fit do I have to be?
Moderately fit. You will be doing some dance stepping and maybe some jumping and capering, but you can take it at your own pace.
I’m fit but I can’t dance!
Just the person we want. Teaching you to dance and have fun is our speciality.
“I can’t dance”
“Can you drive a car?”
“Yes”
“How did you learn?”

“Have you had dancing lessons?”

What should I wear?
Comfortable clothes – you could get hot and sweaty. Wear trainers or comfortable lace up shoes.
How can I get there?
It is easy walking distance from Enfield Chase or Gordon Hill rail stations, and a rather longer walk from Enfield Town station. Several bus routes run nearby. There is limited onsite parking, but parking is available on nearby streets.
I’m interested, but I can’t make that date.
Please use the contact form above and sign up for future emails. We will contact you if we repeat the event.
What kind of Morris are you teaching?
Traditional “Cotswold” Morris dances from Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire (see video above). If there is interest, we could run another session on “North West” Morris from Lancashire and Cheshire (see video below)
Who are Etcetera Morris Men?
Etcetera Morris Men are Enfield’s own Morris side (team) founded in 1974. In 2024–2025 we are celebrating 50 years of bringing Morris dancing to Enfield and beyond. During our anniversary year we organised a Day of Dance across Enfield, we danced at the prestigious Thaxted Morris weekend and we performed in Trafalgar Square.
