We’ve got a box or two of summer programmes that sadly it seems won’t see the light of day this year. We’re keeping in touch within the side via messages and a daily Morris tune, and just starting to tinker with video conferencing. Remote Morris and the perils of video latency make joining in together quite tricky! We haven’t tried singing yet…
We’d also like to take the time to say “we miss you” to the other Morris sides we normally see and are now not expecting to meet this Morris season.
However, being together captures the spirit of the Morris for us. For St George’s Day, which has lately become a more frequent start to the dancing season – or perhaps a ‘soft opening’ for May Day if you prefer – we’d like to take the chance to say hello to our supporters – the people who come to watch and the event organisers and publicans who get us along to dance, and our sponsors at the New River Brewery.
We’d also like to take the time to say “we miss you” to the other Morris sides we normally see and are now not expecting to meet this Morris season. Our frequent summer season catch ups with St Albans Morris and Whitchurch Morris, and our encounters with Hertfordshire Holly and Standon Morris. Our trips to Thaxted Morris Men’s weekend – a fixture for them for over 100 years. The friends from other sides, both in The Morris Ring and without, whom we would have seen at these events – Leeds Morris Men, Letchworth Morris Men and Westminster Morris.
Here’s to when we meet again! Stay safe and well in the meantime. Happy St George’s Day and wassail!
